'Tetris' Movie Announced

Take it as you will, apparently we might get a Tetris film in the not to distant future. It was announced that Threshold Entertainment will develop a live-action film adaptation of the classic '80s video game.

Threshold's CEO Larry Kasanoff told the Wall Street Journal (via /Film) about the development of the film, which according to the report has no director or cast attached but does have a story prepared. No details were given on what they do have planned for the film, but of the story and the property Kasanoff said:
"Brands are the new stars of Hollywood. We have a story behind 'Tetris' which makes it a much more imaginative thing. It's a very big, epic sci-fi movie. This isn't a movie with a bunch of lines running around the page. We're not giving feet to the geometric shapes."
We sure hope they don't plan to have geometric shapes with feet running around, and he does make a good point that brands are definitely a big force in Hollywood at the moment. Still, I have a hard time imagining what kind of story and entire film can be made based on a game like Tetris. At least they seem confident about it, and if the film would succeed other plans are already in mind:
"We certainly have the canvas for location-based entertainment based on the epicness. What you [will] see in 'Tetris' is the teeny tip of an iceberg that has intergalactic significance."
