Matt Damon in Talks for Zhang Yimou's 'The Great Wall'

Matt Damon has been on the news radar this week because of his reunion with director Paul Greengrass in their return to the Bourne Identity franchise, and now he appears again but because the actor is reported to be in talks for the lead role in director Zhang Yimou's film The Great Wall.

Deadline reported that Damon has begun negotiations to star in the film that Legendary Pictures has been trying to get off the ground for years. The film had previously set Ed Zwick to direct with a script by Carlo Bernard and Doug Miro, and would star Henry Cavill and Benjamin Walker, but that didn't end up working so Zhang Yimou got on board to direct and Tony Gilroy has written the most recent draft of the script. The Great Wall is meant to be a story that goes in depth behind the mysteries of why the Great Wall of China was built, and what secrets lay undiscovered under its stones.

This film and the project as a whole seems good, the premise sounds very interesting, Zheng Yimou is a great director and I can see why he is the choice for a film like this. Matt Damon is of course an amazing actor and has said to have wanted to work with Yimou before, Damon has already worked with scripts by Gilroy so if all of this ends up happening it could work well for everybody involved. No release date has been revealed for the film at the moment.
