'Mama' Director attached to 'Shadow of the Colossus' Video Game Movie

Video game movies have a bad reputation since there has not been a quality film adaptation of a video game, but that doesn't mean that an effort isn't being made to break into this genre and with film adaptations for World of Warcraft and Assasin's Creed well on the way the future appears to be bright for video game movies. Sony has been one of those companies trying to give us a good film adaptation of a video game with their property Shadow of the Colossus, which follows the adventure of a horse-riding young boy trying to resurrect his lost love and must defeat sixteen enormous creatures  in the process. The film originally had Chronicle Director Josh Trank attached but with his schedule being so full as of late the project went silent.

The Shadow of the Colossus machine seems to be back in motion with THR reporting that Sony has brought Mama Director Andres Muschietti on board with Seth Lochhead still attached and writing the script supervised by Muschietti.

I have never played the videos game but from what I have seen it the game is said to have a simple narrative and little dialogue which to me plays as a challenge and as an advantage when turning it into a film, the challenge being to have to create more material and the advantage being to have more creative freedom. The story of the game seems to me like it could make a fun blockbuster and I like a giant monster film as much as the next guy, so we will have to be on the look out for more on this project.
