If there has been a Marvel movie in development that has been kept under wraps it has been Doctor Strange, fans have been asking for this film for a while and other than who is directing and writing everything we think we know has come either from unofficial reports or pure speculation. What we know for sure is that Scott Derrickson will direct with a script by Jon Spaihts from earlier drafts by Thomas Dean Donnelly and Joshua Oppenheimer, also reports have pointed out that Joaquin Phoenix would end up getting the role of the Sorcerer Supreme. The other thing that has been speculated about has been the release date, but it seems we don't need to speculate any further.
Screen Daily is reporting that Marvel has set July 8th, 2016 as the release date for Doctor Strange, that date had been previously announced for an untitled film and it was the one most of us were expecting and hoping that Doctor Strange would get. No official announcement by Marvel has been made on the date, but if it ends up being confirmed we would have our two Marvel films for 2016 ready to go since Captain America 3 has a May 6th, 2016 release date.
Marvel is reportedly in final talks to shoot Doctor Strange in the U.K. at Pinewood-Shepperton, production crew would set up camp in late 2014 or early 2015 to make the planned shooting start date of May 2015. Negotiations are expected to go as planned given Marvel's great relationship with Pinewood, Avengers: Age of Ultron just wrapped shooting in Pinewood-Shepperton and Ant-Man is currently filming in Pinewood Atlanta.
