'I Know What You Did Last Summer' is Getting a Remake

We are getting another horror movie remake, Sony is rebooting the 1997 horror hit I Know What You Did Last Summer. The original film was an adaptation of a novel by Lois Duncan of the same name that followed a group of teenagers being stalked by a man with a hook for a hand who they hit with their car while on a drunken night of partying, and starred Jennifer Love Hewitt, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Ryan Phillippe, and Freddie Prinze Jr.

Deadline gave the exclusive that Sony will be rebooting I Know What You Did Last Summer and has hired Oculus co-writer/director Mike Flanagan and Jeff Howard to write a script based on the original novel. No word on director or cast but the report indicates that the studio is aiming for a 2016 release date, also pointing out that if the film is made on a relatively low budget Sony could be looking at a very profitable film, which would make sense given that the 1997 film grossed $125M worldwide on a small budget as well. I am not very excited about this remake but can understand the reasoning behind doing it, let's just hope they do it well and can add something different to the same story.
