Margot Robbie in Early Talks to Star in Live-Action 'Ghost in the Shell'

Popular Japanese manga Ghost in the Shell is being developed into a live-action film by DreamWorks. The original story of the manga is set in the future where most people have cybernetic bodies or body parts but still have a soul or "ghost", it follows the leader of a covert ops organization that targets cyber-terrorists who hack into the bodies of regular people in order to pursue their criminal ends, the film adaptation will be directed by Rupert Sanders with the script written by William Wheeler.

The Wrap gave the exclusive that actress Margot Robbie is in early talks to land the leading role, but no official confirmation of the casting of the actress or which role she would play have been made. Robbie is best known for her recent role in Martin Scorsese's The Wolf of Wall Street and is a quickly rising star, but whether she can carry a big production like this is still debatable.

The story from which the film would be based on sounds interesting enough and looks like it could make a great sci-fi movie which if done correctly could develop an audience and have success, also the reaction from the fans of the manga and other media adaptation of Ghost in the Shell will play a part in that success.  Personally my doubts are, like I said before, in whether Robbie can carry an entire film and a production of the size that this one would have, also Director Rupert Sanders is coming off a not so successful Snow White and the Huntsman so there are some worries there too but this production is just taking off so there is time for our interest to be peaked. In the mean time you can see Margot Robbie alongside Will Smith in Focus which open on February 27, 2015 and she is currently shooting Tarzan for a July 1, 2016 release.
