'Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters' Director Not Returning For Sequel

The Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters sequel will have to look for a new director. Tommy Wirkola has announced that he would not be returning as director for the follow-up film, he wrote a script for the sequel but any further involvement is unknown.

Wirkola revealed the news while talking to Fangoria, claiming that the reason he was dropping out was having no interest in just doing sequels and wanting to do something different. The complete statement that Wirkola gave was the following:
"I’ve just decided to not direct Hansel & Gretel 2. I have been lately attached to a few more things, it’s just a matter of time and priorities. I did Dead Snow 1, then Hansel & Gretel 1, and then Dead Snow 2. I want to do something a little bit different now and not just do sequels. I did write the script and I hope to be involved in it. But yeah, I won’t be directing it."
I think it's a little bit early to say that this will definitely be bad for the film, and you cant't blame the director for wanting to do something different. The movie didn't really do well domestically so maybe bringing a new director in can be an opportunity to do things better the second time around. As far as I know, Jeremy Renner and Gemma Arterton haven't even been attached to return yet, so I think Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters 2 might make the people wanting it to happen wait for a while.
