David Fincher Still Believes in 'Girl Who Played With Fire'

After the release of The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, Sony has been slow on the trigger for a sequel, which is understandable since the first installment even though had some critical acclaim did not perform as expected. Sony is still technically in development of the film but that is no assurance that The Girl Who Played With Fire will actually be made.

Director David Fincher is hopeful and seems to think the film will be made, while promoting his film Gone Girl in Sweden the director talked to website Aftonbladet (via Film Divider) and said, "I think because it [Sony] already has spent millions of dollars on the rights and the script so it will result in something. The script that we now have a huge potential, I can reveal as much as it is extremely different from the book."

At this point it can go in two ways, either the film will be made eventually or the studio just decides things didn't work out and they move on. If it turns out to be the second option, if you want to know what happens next you can just watch the original film trilogy or just read the books.
