It is no Hollywood mystery that Ridley Scott is a very busy man at the moment, he is finishing up Exodus: Gods and Kings and has all the machines in motion for The Martian. Fans and even Scott himself really want to see Blade Runner 2 and Prometheus 2 happen, but with the director having so much on his plate the recurring question is which one will happen next and if they will actually happen. Ridley Scott has offered more insight on the matter and even hinted that the Xenomorphs from Alien could not even play a part in Prometheus 2.Yahoo talked to Scott, and while discussing Exodus: Gods and Kings, the director also offered some updates on where Blade Runner 2 and Prometheus 2 stand. About Blade Runner 2, the director said that the script for the film is ready and he even met with Harrison Ford to discuss the film they day before his injury on the set of Star Wars: Episode VII:
“We met the night before he had the accident, so I hope I had nothing to do with it.”
“It’s on the charts. I can’t say when that would be yet, because of [Ford’s] thing with ‘Star Wars’. It’s a sequel – it’s what happens next. It’s quite surprisingly clever.”When talking about Prometheus 2, Scott mentioned that the script is currently being worked on, commented about the negative reviews of Prometheus revolving around the lack of Xenomorphs and suggested that the monsters will not be appearing in the sequel:
“Right now, as we speak, it’s being written. I've had 15 drafts evolving. I definitely want to do that again because I really enjoyed doing ‘Prometheus.’”
“The beast is done. Cooked. I got lucky meeting Giger all those years ago. It’s very hard to repeat that. I just happen to be the one who forced it through because they said it’s obscene. They didn’t want to do it and I said, ‘I want to do it, it’s fantastic’. But after four, I think it wears out a little bit. There’s only so much snarling you can do. I think you’ve got to come back with something more interesting. And I think we’ve found the next step. I thought the Engineers were quite a good start.”All the comments point to Blade Runner 2 being the project closest to being ready to be made, but with Ford being busy with Star Wars, that could give Prometheus 2 time to catch up leaving the decision to what will be next up to Scott. Whatever ends up happening the sequel that ends up taking the second spot might be pushed back too long for it to even be worth making, so some suggestions are that Scott passes directing duties to someone else. We will have to wait for further updates, for the time being, Exodus : Gods and Kings opens on December 12, and The Martian has a November 25th, 2015 release date.
