'Zombieland 2' Lands Writer

Sony Picture has been trying to get a sequel going for Zombieland for a while, and after the hit movie made over $100 million worldwide, making a sequel is a no-brainer, but the task has been easier said than done after the 2009 original. Now things appear to be taking shape as a new writer has been hired by Sony to pen the script for the sequel.

Deadline reports that Sony Pictures has hired Dave Callaham to write the script for Zombieland 2, which he will do under the supervision of Ruben Fleischer, who directed the first film and is reported to return as director for the sequel. The report points out that no deal has been made with Fleischer and that it is unclear if any of the original cast would return for this second installment, Jesse Eisenberg, Emma Stone, and Woody Harrelson are bigger names now than when the original came out so scheduling could be an issue. Too early to speculate much more so for now they only have a writer, but word is that Sony is pushing to get this going soon.
