New 'Ghostbusters' Has Writer and Director, It will be a Reboot with Female Cast

Talks about a new Ghostbusters film have been around for a long time, and it has been recently that rumors have been going around the most. The latest of those rumors was that there would be a new film that would reboot the franchise and would focus on an all female team, well, it looks like those rumors were true. It has been confirmed that Paul Feig will direct the new film and will be joined by Katie Dippold to write the script for the new Ghostbusters, the two had previously worked together on the hit comedy The Heat.

THR broke the news and Paul Feig later confirmed it himself via Twitter. According to the report, a new film had been in development for a long time planing to bring back the original team, but then script problems made the project focus on a new generation, after that, with the passing of Harold Ramis and the departure of original director Ivan Reitman development was put on halt. Reportedly, Feig was added to the project this august to rejuvenate it, but the new project would be centered on a female team and would be the beginning of a new series of films not connected to the previous ones.

If a strong female team is the road they're taking then these picks for director and writer make sense, they have both worked on successful projects with female leads and also comedies. Hopefully this will give the new Ghostbusters the final push it needed to be revitalized.
