Just recently it was reported that The Conjuring 2 would be pushed back to 2016, with another horror film taking its original spot for an October 2015 release date. There was no specific reason given as to why the film was being pushed back, but the reason has been revealed to be the return of James Wan to the directing chair.
Deadline reported the return on James Wan to the horror franchise, and is said to have signed a deal that will see him produce and direct a number of films from different genres that include science fiction, horror and comedy. Universal has allowed Wan to direct The Conjuring 2 as his next project even though the studio has options on the director to helm another Fast & Furious film, but there are no current confirmations to when that will be.
I was disappointed about the shift in dates for The Conjuring 2, but I can breath a little easier now as can lots of fans of the film. If the reason for the wait is because James Wan is coming back to direct I can deal with that, he did such an amazing job with the first film that it can only be good news that he is returning. The Conjuring 2 will also see the return of Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga as Ed and Lorrain Warren, the film is now set to be released on an unspecified date in 2016.
