'Pacific Rim 2' Beginning Production in Late 2015, Planning for 'Pacific Rim 3'

Guillermo del Toro has already announced Pacific Rim 2 with a released date in place, meaning the director must be very busy getting everything ready for the sequel. But apparently del Toro is aiming high with the franchise and is already planning for a Pacific Rim 3, which according to him will tie in with with the second installment, but both sequels will be much different than the original film.

While on an interview with Collider, Guillermo del Toro offered details about the Pacific Rim sequels, hinting their difference and production details:
"We got the first draft of the movie now, and we are going to spend another 4-5 months on the screenplay before we start pre-production. We start pre-production next year in August-September and start shooting November-December next year. The direction we're going is very different from the first. Some of your favorite characters come back, some others don't because we have decided that we're going to shoot ambitiously and say 'Let's hope we have three movies.' So some characters come in at the end of the second, hoping that it will ramp up on the third one."
I really enjoyed the first film so to me it's exciting to know that a sequel and even a third are coming. Hopefully everything goes well and the third film also gets the green light, that way we can get to see the new direction del Toro is planning to take with the story. Pacific Rim 2 is set to be released on April 7th, 2017. You can check out the clip from the interview with Collider below.
