'The Purge 3' Announced with James DeMonaco to Write and Possibly Direct

When studios consider making sequels for their films, one of the main reasons, if not the most important reason, is financial gain, that has been the case with The Purge franchise. The Purge and The Purge: Anarchy made $91 million and $110 million worldwide, respectively, on a budget that between both films adds up to a mere $12 million. A film franchise that has grossed $200 million worldwide is a no-brainer to continue, so Universal is hoping to continue that success with The Purge 3, the third installment has just entered development and has James DeMonaco, writer and director of the previous films, writing the script and possibly directing again.

Deadline reported on the development of The Purge 3 and the attachment of James DeMonaco, who said the following about his involvement:
"I never imagined that The Purge would become the phenomenon it has become and I am thrilled to continue my collaboration with Blumhouse, Sebastien Lemercier, Platinum Dunes and the great team at Universal in building The Purge into a worldwide franchise."
I haven't had the chance to watch The Purge: Anarchy and I thought The Purge was OK, but I am really fascinated about the concept behind these films and think it's material that can make for a great film. Bringing the writer/director that has been involved in the success of the previous films makes sense, I just hope they continue that rise in quality with The Purge 3.
