Walt Disney Pictures has given the first look and some details from the upcoming
Tomorrowland. The project has been pretty secretive and the only things known have been that it is inspired by the theme park of the same name, it is directed by
Brad Bird with a script from
Damon Lindelof, and stars
George Clooney,
Hugh Laurie, and
Britt Robertson. More information is expected to be revealed during the New York Comic-Con this weekend, but for now we get the first images plus a few details from the people involved.
EW revealed the first three images from the film and shared comments from the director and writer, plus details from the film. According to the magazine, the film is described as follows:
A Florida girl who dreams of the future while watching the launchpads of Cape Canaveral being disassembled goes exploring one day and, after landing in a bit of trouble, finds herself in possession of a mysterious pin. Touching it reveals a vision of a place that may not be a different world but simply a better one. Then it’s gone, and the quest to discover the real Tomorrowland begins.
About this magical place called
Tomorrowland, writer
Damon Lindelof says that it draws its name from the Disneyland attraction and hints that Walt Disney himself could have been inspired from the sight of this world:
"What Hogwarts is to magic, Tomorrowland is to science: They are both easy to find if you are a wizard and very difficult to find if you're a Muggle, Walt Disney is not a character in our movie, but he is referenced as having some involvement in this mysterious place called Tomorrowland, as a huge futurist and aficionado of space travel, rocketry, cities of the future, and space travel."
Britt Robertson's
characters is described as a teenager in the here and now, where it's very hard to be an optimist, who still believes in a better future, while
George Clooney's character is described as a hermit, failed inventor and former boy genius, who knows about Tomorrowland. You can read the entire
EW article for further details.
Tomorrowland hits theaters on May 22nd, 2015.
