'Star Trek 3' Director List Reduced to Five

After the departure of Roberto Orci from the directing position for Star Trek 3, Paramount went on the hunt for a new replacement that was said could be Edger Wright. Now it seems that Wright will not be the choice, but the list of possible replacements has been reduced to five candidates, Rupert Wyatt (Rise of the Planet of the Apes), Morten Tyldum (The Imitation Game), Daniel Espinosa (Safe House), Justin Lin (Fast & Furious 3 – 6), and Duncan Jones (Source Code).

Deadline reported on the list of possible replacements to direct Star Trek 3, mentioning that Wyatt appears to be the top choice for the job. The article also points out that the decision may come down to the availability of each director, with Espinosa expected to direct the Boston Marathon bombing film Boston Strong and Jones working on Warcraft. Jones actually later removed himself from the list by putting out a tweet that said that he was flattered for being considered but will pass on the opportunity to direct an unspecified passion project. So, that would leave only Rupert Wyatt, Morten Tyldum, Daniel Espinosa, and Justin Lin.
This is a very interesting list, and to me looks very diverse. Out of the remaining directors I would be interested in seeing a Star Trek 3 directed by any of them, but Wyatt stands out on the list to me and would also be my top choice. I would put my preference list in the order that I listed the directors before.
