Jeremy Irons Talks Alfred in 'Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice'

When it was revealed that Ben Affleck would be our new Batman whether to love it, hate it, or be neutral about it, fans couldn't stop talking about it for a long time, and later the same happened when it was revealed that Jesse Eisenberg would play Lex Luthor. But many people forget that with the same reveal of Lex Luthor came the reveal that we would also get a new Alfred played by Jeremy Irons, and the question that was overshadowed by all others was what will this new Alfred be like. Luckily, Jeremy Irons himself has shared some information as to what his version of Alfred will be like.

THR reported on the comments made by Irons of the character, which he made while receiving a career tribute at the Marrakech International Film Festival. When discribing what little he could about his rendition of Alfred, the actor said the following:

"He is quite a different Alfred than we have seen so far. Zack Snyder had very clear views about what he wanted. I would just say he's more hands-on perhaps than just a butler."

These comments may be short and precise, but open up a lot of room for speculation. What I take from them is that we are going to get a bad-ass version of Alfred, perhaps more involved in Batman's crusade than what we have seen before. Of course I can't be completely sure as to what "different" and "more hands-on" mean for the character, but whatever it means, I find it very exciting that we will be getting a new Alfred. Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice stars Henry Cavill, Ben Affleck, Gal Gadot, Jesse Eisenberg, Amy Adams, opening in theaters on March 25th, 2016.
