THR reported on Jonah Hill landing the starring role for the upcoming comedy. Jesse Eisinberg and Shia LaBeouf flirted with the film before, but no agreement was reached with any of the actors due to Eisenberg's commitments with Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice and other possible DC titles, and LaBeouf's negotiations never progressing. The studio then put the sights on Jonah Hill, who was familiar with the project and had already participated in table readings when the script by Todd Phillips and Jason Smilovic was still being worked on. The story of the film is based on a Rolling Stones article written by Guy Lawson, which focuses on a couple of stoners in Miami who become arms dealers for the U.S. Government.
I like the sounds of the story of the film, and it really does sound like something made for the comedic style of Jonah Hill, not to mention that I think the pairing of Hill and Phillips could be incredible. I am interested to find out who will play the other stoner, because that chemistry between the pair is going to be very important.
