David Green in Talks to Direct 'Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2'

This summer's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles grossed $478 million worldwide in the box office, so naturally Paramount was quick to announce a sequel. Jonathan Liebesman directed the first film but apparently will not be returning for the sequel, with reports now placing Earth to Echo director David Green as being in talks to direct Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2.

Variety reported on Green being in negotiations to direct the sequel, and credits the change in directors to Paramount wanting to take a new approach for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2. Michale Bay will also produce the sequel along with Brad Fuller and Andrew Form, the script will be written by Josh Applebaum and Andre Nemec. No word on plot details or which cast members are returning, but according to the article, Megan Fox and Will Arnett are expected to return.

I didn't care much for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, but box office numbers like the ones it had obviously point to a sequel. Being that I didn't particularly like the first film, I don't really mind the director change, but I also haven't watched Earth to Echo, so the only thing that I can say about the new director is that I guess the audience of Earth to Echo will be similar to the one TMNT 2 will be targeted to, so I guess he is a good fit. At the moment I don't expect much from a TMNT sequel, but I'll wait and see until I see something more concrete from the film. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2 is set to hit theaters in 2016.
