For a film that is being released in the summer of next year
Josh Trank's
Fantastic Four still remains a very secretive film. All we know apart from the release date is that the film will star
Miles Teller,
Kate Mara,
Michael B. Jordan,
Jamie Bell and
Toby Kebbell, as Reed Richards, Sue Storm, Johnny Storm, Ben Grimm and Dr. Doom, respectively. Kebbell was the last to give us any information of the film commenting on the
origins of his version of Doom. But now, there is no need to keep wondering about this rendition of the Fantastic Four, since an official synopsis has been revealed of the upcoming film.
The synopsis was released online yesterday, first appearing in
Rotten Tomatoes and then in
IGN who actually confirmed the synopsis with Fox (via
Collider). The synopsis for
Josh Trank's
Fantastic Four goes as follows:
THE FANTASTIC FOUR, a contemporary re-imagining of Marvel’s original and longest-running superhero team, centers on four young outsiders who teleport to an alternate and dangerous universe, which alters their physical form in shocking ways. Their lives irrevocably upended, the team must learn to harness their daunting new abilities and work together to save Earth from a former friend turned enemy.

From what we have seen up to this point I think it's safe to assume that we are not getting the traditional
Fantastic Four in this upcoming film. Understandably this may upset some people but like I said for the Dr. Doom origin change, I'm not as emotionally invested in the characters to take offense at these changes, also in the end the only thing that matters is that the film is good and not how closely it follows the source material. But even though it isn't the traditional origin, after reading more about it, I found out that this origin is similar to the one the characters have in the
Ultimate Fantastic Four comics. I hope the synopsis reveal is the beginning of more material from the film to come soon.
Fantastic Four is set to be released on August 7th, 2015.
