'Frozen 2' is "In the Works", According to Idina Menzel [UPDATED]

With the colossal success of Frozen, which made $1.274 billion in theaters worldwide and won Oscars for Best Animated Feature and Best Original Song, without there being any announcements the assumption is that a sequel will eventually come. But according to Idina Menzel (the voice of Elsa), Frozen 2 is "in the works".

The comments come from an lengthy interview with UK newspaper The Telegraph, where the actress said about the development of Frozen 2 and a stage musical that the projects were "all in the works", adding when asked if she was signed up for the projects, "Ah, yeah sure… Not the stage show – I don't know what will happen with that – but the movie hopefully. We'll see. I'm just going along for the ride." These comments were most likely taken out of context and aren't as literal as one would think, since "in the works" could just mean the unsurprising plan to develop a sequel, and as far as we know at the moment Frozen 2 is just planned. Deadline reports in a separate article that sources close to the original project deny that there is a sequel in the works, which of course makes sense, even if the film is actually in development.

I guess that what we can take away from this, like in many situations similar to this one, is not to take everything as fact until it is officially confirmed, meaning from Disney. There should be no doubt that a Frozen 2 is coming at some point, but comments like the ones made by Menzel shouldn't be taken as meaning that the sequel is coming soon because it is "in the works". So, for those who are waiting for a sequel to come, be patient because it should come eventually, but don't let these reports misguide you until you read an official confirmation.

UPDATE (12/2/2014): Turns out that Idina Menzel either spoke out of her place and was told to keep quiet or really had no idea about Frozen 2 and was just assuming the sequel was coming like the rest of us. While on Today (via THR), the actress/singer was quick to set the record straight by saying with a laugh, "You know, I have no idea — I just assumed that because it's so successful that's what they're up to!" Sorry to those who are disappointed but we will have to do some more waiting before getting Frozen 2, or any announcement of it.
