'Zero Dark Thirty' Writer Mark Boal Joins Sony's 'Uncharted'

Sony has long been working on making a movie adaption of the popular video game Uncharted, and at the moment they seem to be the closest they have ever been to the film actually happening. The film already has Seth Gordon attached to direct, and the studio has now brought in a new writer to work on the film. Academy Award-winning writer Mark Boal is reported to have joined Uncharted to work on the script.

THR reported the exclusive of Boal boarding Sony's Uncharted to do some polish work on the most recent version of the script, written by David Guggenheim. Having worked on projects like Zero Dark Thirty and The Hurt Locker, Uncharted can seem like a strange choice for Boal, but according to the report, the writer has taken on the project due to his affinity for the video game which is said will be an adventure similar to Indiana Jones. The story of the game focuses on Nate Drake, a treasure hunter and descendant of Sir Francis Drake that believes to have discovered the location of the golden city El Dorado. However, his search for the hidden city gets a bit tricky when faced with a rival treasure hunter, and both must face mutated creatures that are descendants from Nazis and Spaniards with the mission of protecting the treasure's secrets.

This addition has to be taken as great news for the film, having an Oscar-winning writer who is also a fan of the game join the project should help Sony with their goal of making this movie. I haven't played the games but have a bit of an idea of what they are about, so when I heard about this film adaptation I had the same thought as the article mentions, that this could be the Indiana Jones of this generation. The film still looking to find their lead, so I hope they can get everything together to make their expected 2016 release date.
