'Gambit' Movie in the Works with Channing Tatum and Writer Josh Zetumer

Word was going around a while back about a Gambit movie being made with Channing Tatum to star in the film as the title character. Now it appears that 20th Century Fox is moving forward with the film, with Channing Tatum starring and Josh Zetumer brought to the project to write the script, he previously wrote the RoboCop remake.

Deadline reported on the development of the Gambit movie with Channing Tatum to lead and the addition of Josh Zetumer to pen the script, but no specifics on storyline have been revealed. According to the report, the script will be based on a previous treatment written by Marvel Comics writer Chris Claremont, who created the character with Jim Lee in 1990. Also called Remy LeBeau, Gambit has the power to control the kinetic energy of objects causing them to change and explode, he uses that ability to throw exploding playing cards. The character tried his luck on the big screen before in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, but the character was received very poorly as was the film.

I have always liked characters who are antiheroes, and as far as those go Gambit is probably one of the greatest antiheroes that are out there. This character is very likeable and with a lot of personality, which I think would work well on the big screen. At the moment I don't really see Tatum in the role but from what I've seen he likes the character, so later on when things start coming together I'll probably like the casting. What I am wondering is if the character will have a role in the already existing X-Men universe or if it will be something separate, I guess we will have to wait to know that.
