Shailene Woodley in Talks to Star in Oliver Stone's Edward Snowden Film

As busy as she must be with her Divergent films, it looks like Shailene Woodley is wasting no time to look for her next projects. And apart from tacking on new projects, those projects are looking to be of a more serious subject matter, at least her possible next film would be. Woodley is reportedly in talks to star in Oliver Stone's untitled Edward Snowden film.

THR reported on Shailene Woodley being in negotiations to land the female leading role in the film. Woodley would play the part of Snowden's girlfriend, joining Jospeh Gordon-Levitt who will play Snowden. The film will be based on two books, Luke Harding's The Snowden Files: The Inside Story of the World's Most Wanted Man and Anatoly Kucherena's Time of the Octopus, following Snowden from Hawaii to Hong Kong, where he handed over top secret NSA documents and later going to Moscow to seek asylum. The film is in preproduction in Germany at the moment, set to begin filming in January.

I think this role would be a very smart move from Woodley. This film will be one that will be talked about for sure, and that's just because of the subject matter not even for the quality. If the film does end up being good, this type of role is very different than what we've seen from her, so if she also performs well it will add range to her career in my opinion. I think Shailene Woodley is a very talented actress, and seeing her in a challenging role like this one would be great.
