Justin Lin Could Return For 'Fast and Furious' Series Finale

Justin Lin left the Fast and Furious franchise after directing four films, which were The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift, Fast & Furious, Fast Five, and Fast & Furious 6, then passing the torch to James Wan for Furious 7. But with Wan busy with The Conjuring 2 it is looking like Lin would return to the franchise for the next installment, with reports pointing at a possible deal in the works between Universal and Lin that would bring the director back.

Deadline reported on the possible return of Justin Lin to the Fast and Furious franchise. According to the report, it is very likely that Universal will begin talks with Lin for him to direct multiple films in the franchise being shot together that will mark the conclusion of the series. This possible deal would come because of, like I said, Wan going back to make The Conjuring 2 and also because of Lin's plans to make a Bourne Legacy sequel being put on hold with the return of Matt Damon to the Bourne franchise. There isn't a specific set number of films that Lin would direct, so for that we would have to wait for the deal to be made and announced.

The last three films that Justin Lin made took the Fast and Furious franchise to the success that it has today, so bringing the director back is a smart move to me, and after what he did for the franchise why not give him the closing honors. It is a bit surprising to me that they would consider concluding the series given where it stands now, but if it happens I would think it would be a smart move not to wait until the movies fail to wrap up. We will have to wait to get confirmation on what will actually happen, but until then we can expect Furious 7 in theaters on April 3rd, 2015.
