'The Maze Runner' Sequel Gets Release Date

Successful young adult book movie adaptations seem to be the big trend in Hollywood these days, currently The Hunger Games lead the race with Divergent and The Maze Runner following the example and cashing in on the trend of post apocalyptic adventures. This doesn't mean that every film adapted from a YA book is destined to be successful, without getting into specific titles the are some movies trying to follow the trend that won't be getting any sequels. The franchise that will be getting a sequel is The Maze Runner and for those anticipating the next film, it just got a release date.

The Maze Runner opened in theaters this weekend and performed very well, the film made $37.6 million on a budget that was around $30 million. The sequel had already been in pre-production, a script was already in the works and even concept art was shown at Comic-Con, but even with all the pieces set the making of the sequel was depending on the success of the first film and to the relief of the studio and fans, everything seems to have worked for the best. The sequel will be titled The Scorch Trials and has been set to be released on September 18th, 2015, Wes Ball will return to direct with a script written by T.S. Nowlin.
