Joaquin Phoenix Out of 'Doctor Strange'

Last time we heard from Doctor Strange in reports that Joaquin Phoenix was in closing talks to star in the film as the Sorcerer Supreme, but now it looks like Marvel will have to go back to the drawing board to find their Stephen Strange, since talks between Marvel and Phoenix are over.

Deadline reports that negotiations between the actor and the studio have ended, with no deal made. Specifics about what went wrong in the talks are, of course, not publicly known, but the report does point out that Marvel did believe the actor was a great choice for the role. Now the studio must look for other candidates, which naturally will have people speculating again, names being thrown around before included Tom Hardy, Benedict Cumberbatch, and Jared Leto, so it remains to be seen if any of those could be the pick or someone else. According to the most recent rumors, Ethan Hawke was said to be the one to get the role, but Deadline was firm in stating that those were just wild speculations that got to much steam. For the time being, Marvel will be on the search for their new Doctor Strange and we will be speculating and waiting for when the announcement comes.
